Medical Acupuncture
What is medical Acupuncture?
Medical Acupuncture is the practice of acupuncture by a licensed physician Acupuncture has been used to help treat pain for the past 4 thousand years. There are many types of acupuncture treatments and techniques. We use a combination of modern acupuncture technique and classic acupuncture.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a treatment that helps promote natural healing, pain control and improved function. There are two main ways that acupuncture works. The classic idea of removing blocked energy meridians, and the "western –modern Medical" idea of electrical analgesia.
Classic Chinese method: channels of energy flow throughout the body. This has been shown by research at Harvard. These channels are called Meridians. Obstruction of these meridians will lead to pain and loss of function. By placing very small needles into specific points we can unblock the meridians and create the natural electrical flow over our body.
Modern Scientific explanation: with this approach the needles are connected to an electric stimulator. The Electric stimulation goes deep from needle to needle. The Stimulation goes through a wide range of electrical frequencies, creating an anti inflammatory state as well as a reduced pain state (analgesia).
What do we use acupuncture for?
We treat musculoskeletal pain over the whole body, ranging from neck and spine to knee and foot pain.
How many treatments?
Acute pain only a few treatments. If you have had pain for a long time it may take many treatments to get the pain under control.
